Reading every night- To start the year, students are asked to read at home when they can. Once our reading stamina starts to increase, I will introduce a more formal structure to our reading homework.

Math fluency- It is also extremely vital that students are fluent in their facts. In order to be ready for our multiplication unit, your student should practice their addition and subtraction facts so they are able to add/subtract mentally. This will be helpful when we begin to learn different multiplication strategies! You may use math websites or make flashcards for home!

Words Their Way- Students have a choice board that they will keep at home to pair with their spelling list. They will choose one activity a night from the board to complete. They can fill in their choice on their WTW log.

Check out the page titled "Websites" to help guide your student towards an appropriate site that can supplement their learning at home..

Below you will find the Botelle School homework policy.

Homework (Policy 6154)

Homework is introduced in the elementary school years to encourage responsibility, as well as good
habits and study skills. Homework is an integral part of the instructional program and learning process
that allows students to follow through on their personal commitment to academic work. It should be
meaningful and help students develop constructive attitudes and sharpen useful skills.

The regular practice of homework requires self-discipline. It is expected that each student will accept the
responsibility in balancing homework and outside activities.

It should be understood that each grade level serves as the foundation for the next. We recognize that
activities may need to accommodate students with different learning and organizational difficulties or
those with other special needs.
